The Sam & Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies is delighted to bring Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell to Milwaukee as part of its series, “The Colors of Jewishness.” Anthony Russell is a vocalist, composer and arranger specializing in Yiddish art and folk song, chazones, and Chasidic nigunim.
Yiddish Song presents yet another vibrant, relevant body of Jewish texts with which to engage, celebrate and—of course—argue about the continuities of Jewish spiritual and cultural life. In “Written in Breath”, Russell leads a lively discussion where classic Jewish texts are compared and contrasted with Yiddish texts from songs that are performed.
Guests welcome to stay for Shabbat Eve Services at 7:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
