Israel’s Day of Remembrance honors veterans and fallen military personnel of the Israel Defense Forces, other Israeli security services and victims of terror. This year, we will give special honor to victims of terror.
■Guest speaker: Ephraim Shapiro
■Bio: Ephraim Shapiro grew up in Milwaukee until 2004, attended Milwaukee Jewish Day School, and visited Israel many times with his family. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in political science and Arabic, he made Aliyah and joined the IDF with the program Garin Tzabar in August 2012. His group of 27 lone soldiers lived on Kibbutz Urim in the southern Eshkol region that borders Gaza. In December 2012, he joined an elite combat unit in the Intelligence Corps. After two meaningful years, he finished his service and currently works in Israel’s booming startup industry.
